be updated regularly to include items on Vietnamese people and culture.
However, in this first edition I would like to explain how I came to be
here in Vietnam, and why I am still herec |
| I first came to Vietnam 15 years ago. I was
posted here by a Japanese investment consultancy, and it was my
job to establish a Vietnamese branch. During this time I met Ngo
Tu Anh, and fell in love instantly. For a time I was very happy
working in Vietnam, but this was not to last. Two years after I
arrived in Vietnam I was reassigned to China. This left me with
a stark choice: accept the transfer and leave Tu Anh, or resign
my position and stay in Vietnam. An hour later I faxed in my resignation.private

| The easy life in Vietnam was over. Tu Anh and
I wondered what we could do next. After a great deal of fulmination,
we hit upon the idea of starting some kind of distribution business,
but what should we distribute? We chose confectionery for the simple
reason that it is something people consume every day. As long as
we supply the right products, we should be able to build a successful
business. So we started NhatAnh, with Tu Anh as managing director
and myself as the sole employee. |
| Since then we have had our ups and downs, but
have managed to keep the business going and to expand it gradually.
My own functions are chiefly on the sales and management side, to
which I can apply the experience I have gained in Japan. In future
geditionsh of this page we intend to include items on everyday life
and events in Vietnam as seen through the eyes of a foreigner, as
well as information about our business. |
| The page will be updated at least once a week.

between Vietnamese foreign languagestudents and people overseas,
for example. We will also provide links to thewebsites of Vietnamese
government bodies and companies as well as to those of private individuals.
